Overview A Network SME (Subject Matter Expert) is an IT professional who specializes in the design, implementation, and maintenance of computer networks. They are responsible for ensuring that networks are secure, reliable, and efficient. They also provide technical support to users and troubleshoot network issues. Detailed Job Description Network SMEs are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining computer networks. This includes configuring routers, switches, and firewalls, as well as setting up and managing virtual private networks (VPNs). They also monitor network performance and security, and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Network SMEs may also be responsible for providing technical support to users, training new staff, and researching new technologies. Skills Required Network SMEs must have a strong understanding of computer networks and related technologies. They should be knowledgeable in routing protocols, network security, and network management tools. They should also have excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Qualifications Network SMEs typically have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. They may also have certifications in network technologies, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or CompTIA Network+. Knowledge Network SMEs should have a thorough understanding of computer networks and related technologies.
