Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Virginia

Position includes a rotating call schedule.

Provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Experience: No experience required. Diagnostic Medical Sonography experience preferred.

Performs appropriate ultrasound procedures and records anatomical pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.

Assists the physician in gathering sonographic data necessary to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases.

Education : Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Experience : Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonographer student

Explains procedures to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.

Assists physicians in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of intravenous (IV) heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Sonography.

Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards.

ARDMS or ARRT Certification or eligible within one (1) year of hire.

Certification in Ultrasound or eligible.

Perform diagnostic Ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician.

Perform all Ultrasound Imaging techniques and examinations: Abdominal, Retroperitoneal, Obstetrics and Gynecological, Carotid, Vascular Small Parts and Intra cavity exams.

Float to Westhampton. Breast Center and Hampton Bays Atrium and call required.

Graduate of a program in Ultrasound Technology.
