Overview Medical Social Workers are professionals who provide social and emotional support to patients and their families in a healthcare setting. They help patients and their families cope with the physical, emotional, and social challenges that come with a medical diagnosis. They also provide resources and referrals to help patients and their families access the services they need. Detailed Job Description Medical Social Workers are responsible for providing social and emotional support to patients and their families in a healthcare setting. They assess the patient’s and family’s needs, provide counseling and support, and make referrals to appropriate resources. They also provide education and resources to help patients and their families cope with the physical, emotional, and social challenges that come with a medical diagnosis. Medical Social Workers also work with healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. Job Skills Required• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to assess patient and family needs
• Knowledge of community resources
• Ability to provide counseling and support
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to work with a variety of healthcare providers

Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field
• Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field preferred
• Licensure or certification as a Medical Social Worker
• Experience working in a healthcare setting
