Light Microscopy Facility Manager Jobs

Provide technical direction to graduate students, postdocs, and research associates as appropriate, and assist in the management of research projects.

Provide users with support through your own efforts, hands-on and with your expert knowledge, in the area of electron microscopy.

Communicate with users of varying levels of experience in electron microscopy with empathy and professionalism.

Share in user-related operations, maintenance/administration, and development responsibilities within the NCEM Facility.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Research experience and an established track record working in electron microscopy research at academic, industrial, or other research institutions.

Supervise operational activities of laboratory personnel in an organized and efficient manner to prevent any delays in microscopy testing.

Author/Review/Approve microscopy technical reports to support investigational conclusions and regulatory communications.

Author/Review/Approve protocols, deviations, and investigations.

Train personnel on department procedures and testing methods and protocols

Represent department in meetings with Production, QA/RA, Packaging, and other related departments.

Advise, recommend, and implement resolutions for quality issues and non-compliance.

Knowledge in the fields of biological and environmental science, offering valuable insights and diverse perspectives.

Strong oral and written communication skills for effectively conveying scientific results and experimental plans.

Skills and expertise in the use and design of sample environments or analysis of multimodal datasets are desirable.

RD2: Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 3+ years experience, a Doctorate, or equivalent.

RD3: Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 5+ years experience, a Doctorate and 4+ years, or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will have the following responsibilities in the field of x-ray microscopy:

Develop proficiency with administrative tools including Microsoft 365, Concur, HighSpot, Learning Management System as well as other administrative tools.

Equivalent mix of education and applicable microscopy/ imaging experience from an accredited institution considered.

Develop proficiency with Elton inventory control software to maintain and manage sample account.

Provide Sales Manager with weekly call reports via entries into CRM Calendar and weekly update of CRM open opportunities

Bachelor’s Degree in Life or Technical Science or equivalent experience required.

Strong interpersonal communications and computer skills are necessary.

Apply Chemistry and microscopy knowledge to accelerate innovation and product development.

Previous experience with microscopy, specifically with SEM/EDX

Basic sample preparation skills like cell culture is needed;  techniques such as transfection, organoid culture are a plus

Working knowledge of Widefield and/or Confocal Imaging a plus

Solution oriented problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Positive “can do” attitude coupled with a willingness to continuously acquire product and application knowledge independently

Solid understanding and hands-on experience in SEM-EDX (Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis) techniques.

Experience in sample preparation such as cross-sectioning, mechanical/chemical polishing, and/or ion milling.

Experience in other material analysis techniques such as XRD, XRF, TEM, and/or XPS is a plus, but not required.

Experience working in a chemistry lab environment.

Working knowledge of Windows and MS Office.

Excellent communication and organization skills

Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience in studying photovoltaics, batteries, or biological systems is beneficial

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Good collaboration skills and be able to work in a team environment

Experience with automation, control, and instrument infrastructure

Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related discipline obtained within the last three years

3-5 years including supervisory experience

Coordinates and meets regularly with light microscopy facility faculty co-directors. 5%

Lead workshops on microscopy and image analysis for undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and staff 5%

May teach a lecture or lab-based 2- or 4-credit course 15%.
