Overview Janitors are responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly. They perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and emptying trash cans. Janitors may also be responsible for performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and unclogging toilets. Job Skills Required Janitors must have good physical stamina and strength, as they are often required to lift and move heavy objects. They must also have good communication skills, as they may need to interact with customers or other staff members. Additionally, janitors must be able to follow instructions and work independently. Job Qualifications Most janitors do not need any formal qualifications, although some employers may prefer to hire those with a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, janitors must be able to pass a background check and drug test. Job Knowledge Janitors must be familiar with the cleaning supplies and equipment they use. They must also be familiar with safety protocols and procedures, such as how to properly use and store cleaning chemicals. Job Experience Most janitors have at least one year of experience in a related field, such as housekeeping or custodial work. Job Responsibilities Janitors are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the interior and exterior of buildings. This includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and emptying trash cans. Janitors may also be responsible for performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and unclogging toilets. Additionally, janitors may be responsible for setting up and breaking down furniture for events, as well as cleaning and maintaining outdoor areas.-
