Overview A Jailer is responsible for the safety and security of inmates in a correctional facility. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the jail, including supervising inmates, maintaining order, and enforcing rules and regulations. Detailed Job Description Jailers are responsible for the safety and security of inmates in a correctional facility. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the jail, including supervising inmates, maintaining order, and enforcing rules and regulations. Jailers are also responsible for conducting searches, monitoring inmate behavior, and responding to emergencies. They may also be responsible for providing medical care to inmates, as well as providing counseling and guidance. Job Skills Required Jailers must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. They must also be able to make quick decisions in emergency situations. Jailers must also have strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask. Job Qualifications Most employers require that Jailers have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers may also require that Jailers have a valid driver’s license and/or a valid security guard license. Job Knowledge Jailers must have a thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the operation of a correctional facility. They must also be familiar with the policies and procedures of the facility. Job Experience Most employers require that Jailers have at least one year of experience in a correctional facility.
