Housing Outreach Specialist Jobs in New York

Cultivates relationships with prospective landlords, brokers, and management companies that result in appropriate listings for clients to consider for permanent placements.

Conducts outreach activities to recruit new clients, landlords, brokers, and management companies.

Experience in securing housing for families in the DHS shelter system

Develops and maintains housing resources to assist clients in securing appropriate permanent housing.

Helps with negotiation of leases and the securing and maintaining of funding streams.

Ensures that landlords outfit all apartments with requisite working equipment and appliances.

Confirm landlord and management company compliance in meeting the established housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.

Inform case management staff of unit readiness and/or problems with clients maintaining units.

Work with case management staff to resolve crises or conflicts with building owners, landlords, and management.

Work with case managers to identify and problem-solve barriers to permanent housing and assist with preparing clients for the housing process.

Knowledge of applicable state and city housing and disability laws and codes is essential.

Computer literacy with advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Attention to providing for the necessary development of ADL skills: budgeting, cooking, household maintenance, personal hygiene, use of public transportation, etc.

Preferred Experience with Entitlements (SSI/SSD, Medicaid, SNAP, etc).

High School Diploma or Equivalency with experience in human services required

With Supervisor, assist residents with the development and implementation of a long range service plan

Responsible for contact and documentation of such with collateral service providers at least once a month and as needed

Two years’ experience, preferably in a non-profit or real estate environment, knowledge of supportive housing and DHS housing programs preferred

Coordinate and develop knowledge of alternative housing opportunities including scatter site, market rate apartments, nursing home, and mental health housing

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Previous experience working with homeless/formerly homeless populations, adults with substance abuse /dual diagnosis preferred

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Strong writing and verbal communication skills
