Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

Performs a variety of special stains (manual process)

Operates and performs maintenance on laboratory equipment including tissue processors, embedding stations, automated H&E stainer and film coverslipper, and microtomes

Successful completion of a visual color discrimination test

Ability to work efficiently and produce high quality slides

Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements;

Strong oral and written communication skills

Computer skills, including the ability to learn a new system

The Requirements Of The Position

Responsible for the humane care and welfare of all test systems within the vivarium;

Train in on-boarding tasks to include GLP Training, Animal Welfare Training;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of English.

Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.

Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.), preferred.

Experience: No previous experience required. Lab experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure: None, unless required by local government.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.

An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Process and manage specimens sent to reference laboratories. Ensure adequate billing charges

Experience as an Electron Microscopy Technician,

Perform cryotomy of specimens for optimal demonstration of various tissue structures. Perform Immunofluorescence staining on frozen sections

Provide microtomy services to Internal and External labs as requested

Assists in the training and instruction of new employees, students and residents

Embeds tissue from surgical procedures.

Labels requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes and/or slides and affixes coverslip to slides.

Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.

Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstations.

Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks, slides, and pathology reports.

Disposes of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines.
