Six months of experience as an EKG technician, preferred.

Knowledge of normal and abnormal EKG data.

Performs EKG services according to established procedure of the hospital.

Will maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate the EKG services.

Will assist with the training of new employees, student interns, and employees of other departments.

High school diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

One year of related experience in a hospital is desirable.

Completion of rhythm analysis class and BCLS certification is necessary within one year of employment.

Mercy EKG is actively seeking a full-time EKG/Special Test Technician to join our team!

Pay Range: $16.95-$24.69 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Required:

Ability to work with PCs and software programs (HIM system, EKG information management system, etc.).

1 year 12-lead ECG performance, knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia

General clerical skills including use of fax, copier, memo taking, conference phone system, etc.

Technical School Diploma Basic arrhythmia course

Physical ability to assist patients with mobility issues and transport equipment.

Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned.

Supervisor Experience: No Experience Required

7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Performs cardiology tests and procedures.

Ensures all equipment is cleaned, stocked, available, and kept in working order.

Supports and demonstrates the continuous improvements of quality and service.

Previous experience providing direct patient care in or demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular services desired.

One year of health care experience involving direct patient care.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required by employment start date.

Some EKG technical experience or laboratory experience is desired.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills desired.

Performs EKGs on all inpatients and outpatients, including newborns, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

1 year Clinical Healthcare Experience

EKG/ECG experience preferred (may include clinical training)

Desire to continue education to formally study Neurodiagnostics - PREFERRED

Other Required Sills and Experience

Educates patients on EKG/EEG/stress testing procedures, and performs EKG tracing component. Assists during stress test procedure. 17%

Receives and processes EKG/ECG records. Corrects patient's data. Understands the process for crediting related functions. 5%

Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.

Attaches, connects, and operates electrodes from specified body areas to leads from electrocardiograph machine.

Reviews patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.

Identifies and corrects for artifacts. Edits and forwards results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.

Maintains EKG equipment and supplies.

Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
