Domestic Violence Community Outreach Advocate Jobs in New York

GED, high school diploma, three years’ relevant work experience, or some combination of these is required

Demonstrated experience with community outreach or activism, preferably in the New York City area

Clear understanding of how social movements can influence legislative and legal processes; specific experience working in coalition-based campaigning is desirable

Strong communication and collaborations skills

Basic computer skills (email, internet, word processing, google docs, and communication tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams)

Using social media and other digital tools to support community engagement and organizing

Equally at home conversing with gang members, community activists, law enforcement personnel, and public officials.

Experience supervising formerly incarcerated individuals is a plus.

Must obtain and maintain of Education (DOE) fingerprint clearance

Knowledge of the Brownsville & Canarsie community.

Experience working with court-involved young adults.

Experience working with staff with criminal justice histories preferred.

Significant criminal defense experience at the trial and post-conviction levels and demonstrated excellence in courtroom advocacy and legal writing

Experience or familiarity with DVSJA and sealing preferred

Excellent interpersonal coaching and development skills

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of attorneys and paralegals with varying experience levels

Lead the DVSJA Unit and Case Closing Project to ensure high-quality advocacy, including setting priorities, developing protocols, and making strategic determinations
