Distribution Engineer Jobs

Work with cross functional stakeholders including product, design, sales, Data and others to help break down business requirements into actionable plans

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent training/fellowship/work experience

Experience with API and service development in Python, Go, or similar languages

Experience using multiple transports and formats (e.g. REST, gRPC, GraphQL)

Experience with using and deploying services on cloud platforms like AWS

At least 3+ years of hands-on software development experience - It’s not the years, it’s the miles

Knowledge of smart infrastructure equipment such as automatic feeder switches, remote sensing switching, remote sensing cap banks and other smart equipment

Maintaining and enhancing relationships with other design disciplines and external stakeholders and assist team leads and managers

3 years of overhead and underground distribution engineering experience serving utilities in North America

Knowledge of CSA/IEC/NESC/IEEE Standards and Codes and major utility Engineering Standards

Knowledge of electrical design including the selection and installation of conductors, insulators, switchgears, circuit breakers, fuses and other distribution equipment

Knowledge of PV’s and EV’s

Design chemical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

Applies strong knowledge of commonly used chemical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the chemical engineering services industry.

Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

Master Degree in Chemical Engineering and 2 years of chemical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required

Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience or basic knowledge of concepts in the electric utility industry, including primary and secondary distribution systems, & utility standards

Work is primarily remote/office based, but fieldwork may be needed throughout the engineering design process.

Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills

Assist with distribution line design 2.4kV - 34kV

Work with Designers and Engineers to prepare new drawings, modify existing drawings, or create as-built documents

Assist in the preparation of proposals, engineering/project cost estimates, and execution schedules.

Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.

Experience in the energy industry.

Knowledge of 3-phase AC systems.

Experience with distribution automation, SCADA, metering, and control.

Experience with distributed energy resources (DER), battery storage installations (BESS), and sectionalizing devices.

Distribution Designer Required Education & Experience:

Level 2 – Distribution Designer: BS degree + 2 -4 years relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered with BA degree

Experience with ESRI, AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience with projects in distribution design: using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects

Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments

Capable of multi-tasking with excellent time management skills

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Manage various sizes of Altec projects

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Data analysis experience - Preferred

Monitors costs, labor efficiency, space utilization, machine capability, etc. using data tools

Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.

Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.

Performs other duties as directed.

Document and submit daily reporting and forms of all construction activities daily to the Distribution Management Team.

Proactively communicate daily scheduling changes to Distribution Management.

Ensure compliance with all project-specific environmental requirements, landowner stipulations, and construction requirements.

Ensure compliance with all city, county, state, and other agency permit requirements.

Should have a fundamental understanding of distribution standards, codes and construction methods, and safety requirements.

Ensure all work activities are performed safely and professionally within the company's Health and Safety handbook.
