Overview A Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) is a public health professional who works to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases. DISs are responsible for identifying, investigating, and responding to communicable diseases in a community. They work with individuals, families, and communities to provide education, counseling, and referrals to health care providers. Detailed Job Description Disease Intervention Specialists are responsible for identifying, investigating, and responding to communicable diseases in a community. They work with individuals, families, and communities to provide education, counseling, and referrals to health care providers. DISs also provide technical assistance to health care providers and public health departments. They may also be involved in developing and implementing public health programs and policies. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of public health principles and practices
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, families, and communities
• Knowledge of epidemiology and disease control
• Ability to analyze data and interpret results
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of computer applications and software
• Ability to work with diverse populations
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, or a related field
• Certification in public health or a related field
• Previous experience in public health or a related field
• Knowledge of communicable diseases and their control
