Overview A Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) is a public health professional who works to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases. DISs are responsible for identifying, investigating, and responding to communicable diseases in a community. They work with individuals, families, and communities to provide education, counseling, and referrals to health care providers. Detailed Job Description Disease Intervention Specialists are responsible for identifying, investigating, and responding to communicable diseases in a community. They work with individuals, families, and communities to provide education, counseling, and referrals to health care providers. DISs also provide technical assistance to health care providers and public health departments. They may also be involved in developing and implementing public health programs and policies.
