Desired Qualifications, Experiences, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of academic content standards, current museum teaching strategies, and learning theory, classroom teaching experience a plus.

Knowledge of current practices in museum/community education, exhibition design and development, interpretation, and visitor studies.

Develop annual department budget that reflects education department priorities.

Develops informational/interpretive/educational materials designed to enhance visitor understanding and engagement.

Recruits, screens, trains, and oversees staff, students, and volunteers to support the museum’s ongoing arts educational activities.

Demonstrates good presentation skills in dealing with the public, Zoo Board and internal and external stakeholders.

Supports and/or directs animal related projects (introductions, transfers, veterinary needs) in accordance with curators' guidance and direction.

Facilitates institutional core values throughout division through ongoing ethical engagement with staff.

Interfaces with Veterinary, Wellness, and Nutrition staff to advance animal care.

Serves as Curator in Charge ("CIC"), may serve on Armed Response Team and may serve a role in native wildlife response.

May be required to perform the duties of an animal keeper on an as-needed

Conduct & facilitate collections-based & discipline-based research, produce peer-reviewed publications, develop/submit research & collection grant proposals, execute successfully funded projects.

Conduct conservation evaluations & stabilization efforts.Conduct provenance research. Foster donor relationships.

Provide & monitor evaluations of the collection for insurance purposes. Conduct environmental monitoring in the collections & maintain records.

Coordinate evaluations with Museum Registrar.

Maintain divisional collection reports. Coordinate with Museum Registration/Operations staff.

Provide assistance/collaborate with Museum Association on events/programs that complement both the division & Association.

Knowledge of printmaking and drawing techniques and knowledge of the history of prints and drawings.

Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages and the ability to deal with unfamiliar foreign languages preferred.

Strong working knowledge of relevant print and electronic resources.

Strong working knowledge of the best practices for print and drawings collection arrangement and description, particularly rare or unique material.

Knowledge of specialized preservation and handling techniques for rare and fragile items related to the field.

Ability to plan and prioritize job responsibilities and tasks.
