Acquire working knowledge of department practices, procedures, equipment, and organizational systems.

Acquire, through training, knowledge of contemporary and approved principles, practices, and procedures of police work, state laws, City ordinances, and first-aid.

Acquire, through training, knowledge of the geography and demographics of the City and common law enforcement problems.

Develop skill in the use of a less lethal personal protection such as oleoresin capsicum "OC".

Develop skill in the use of firearms.

Perform a wide variety of routine clerical duties including filing, checking, and recording needed information.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.

Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.

Part-Time employees have limited benefits available.

Observes, controls, and supervises inmate activities.

Maintains the safety and physical security of the facility, personnel, and inmates.

1. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification must obtain certification by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission.

Conducting face-to-face contact during their scheduled shift.

Conducting violation conferences as needed to bring the youth into compliance.

Conduct phone checks during their scheduled shifts.

Working with law enforcement to apprehend youth in Community Detention (CD) violation.

Performing equipment installations for youth court orders on Community Detention and Electronic Monitoring.
