Clinical Veterinarian Jobs

Participates in management of the hospital pharmacy.

Actively consults with animal management staff and keepers to identify and anticipate needed medical services.

Provides technical training to improve the skill level of other staff members.

Participate in teaching medical skills to visiting veterinary student externs.

Interacts with Zoo visitors courteously and offers proper attention at all times.

Clinical experience with a broad range of captive wildlife species is highly desirable.

Performs physical assessments and develops diagnostic sampling and therapeutic management proposal of cases.

Establishes management protocol and initiates treatment.

Annual Salary Range: $94,375.00 - $153,355.00 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Supervises animal health technician(s), monitors schedule and assures coverage of responsibilities.

Manages ARP and IACUC veterinary medical and surgical programs to assure the health, well-being and humane care of research animals.

Work Arrangement (final schedule to be determined by the department/hiring manager)

In-depth knowledge of pre- and post-surgical care of laboratory animals

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

Board eligibility or working toward board eligibility by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine

Expertise in veterinary medicine or laboratory animal medicine

Ability to diagnose diseases in laboratory animals

Proficiency in necropsies, surgery, and therapeutic treatment on animals

ACLAM certification or board eligibility is required.

Prior experience in an academic environment is desirable and advanced research training (MS, PhD, MPH etc.) is a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Three years of related experience

Proof of board-certification in relevant specialty, if applicable

Licensed DVM in at least one state

State of Texas Veterinary License

Manages projects and complex cases independently.

Develops skills related to client-requested veterinary procedures (e.g., skin biopsies, bone marrow samples, CSF collection, anesthesia techniques).

Graduate of AVMA accredited veterinary school or equivalent or equivalent training with ECFVG certification, is required.

2-3 years of veterinary clinical experience preferred.

Knowledge of small and large animals used in research.

Assist supervisor to ensure that company policies and practices regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance with relevant regulations

Board certification or eligibility for board certification in laboratory animal medicine.

Thorough knowledge of compliance standards procedures relating to the care of animals in a research environment.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Thorough knowledge of the hazards of exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal scratches and bites, carcinogenic materials, and radioisotopes.

Ability to instruct others in the care and use of laboratory animals.

Ability to lift animals weighing up to 50 pounds.

Have opportunities for interdepartmental project work, clinical and program management-based research, and instructing/training

Minimum 5 years of zoological and aquatic medicine experience

Minimum 3 years of experience at an AZA-accredited facility

Breadth of veterinary experience with different animal taxa, emphasis on strong balance of aquatic and terrestrial expertise
