They must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical drawings, measure and mark materials for cutting, and use a variety of hand and power tools to cut, shape, and assemble materials. They must also be able to install hardware, such as hinges, locks, and handles, and finish carpentry projects by sanding, staining, and painting. Job Skill Requirements Carpenter Journeymen must have excellent manual dexterity and be able to work with precision. They must also have good problem-solving skills and be able to work independently. They must be able to lift and carry heavy materials and be comfortable working at heights.
