Overview Cardiovascular technologists are healthcare professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases. They use a variety of imaging techniques and equipment to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases. They also provide patient education and support to patients and their families. Detailed Job Description Cardiovascular technologists are responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These procedures include electrocardiograms (ECGs), echocardiograms, stress tests, and vascular studies. They also assist physicians in performing cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, and other interventional procedures. Cardiovascular technologists must be knowledgeable about the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system and be able to interpret the results of diagnostic tests. Job Skills Required Cardiovascular technologists must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with patients and their families. They must also have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills in order to accurately interpret diagnostic tests and make appropriate treatment decisions. Additionally, they must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Job Qualifications Cardiovascular technologists must have a minimum of an associate’s degree in cardiovascular technology or a related field. They must also be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Job Knowledge Cardiovascular technologists must have a thorough knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. They must also be knowledgeable about the various imaging techniques and equipment used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, they must be familiar with the various medications and treatments used to treat cardiovascular diseases. Job Experience Cardiovascular technologists must have at least one year of experience in a clinical setting. They must also have experience in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
