Overview A Behavioral Health Specialist is a mental health professional who works with individuals, families, and groups to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health issues. They provide counseling, therapy, and other interventions to help individuals cope with mental health issues. Detailed Job Description A Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health issues in individuals, families, and groups. They provide counseling, therapy, and other interventions to help individuals cope with mental health issues. They also provide education and support to individuals and families to help them better understand mental health issues and how to manage them. They may also provide referrals to other mental health professionals or services. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of mental health issues and treatments
• Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health issues
• Ability to provide counseling and therapy
• Ability to provide education and support to individuals and families
• Ability to refer individuals to other mental health professionals or services
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with diverse populations
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
• Licensure as a mental health professional in the state of practice
• Certification as a Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS)
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of mental health issues and treatments
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Knowledge of counseling and therapy techniques
• Knowledge of assessment and diagnostic tools
Job Experience
• Previous experience working with individuals, families, and groups
• Previous experience providing counseling and therapy
• Previous experience providing education and support
• Previous experience referring individuals to other mental health professionals or services
Job Responsibilities
• Assess, diagnose, and treat mental health issues in individuals, families, and groups
• Provide counseling and therapy to individuals, families, and groups
• Provide education and support to individuals and families
• Refer individuals to other mental health professionals or services
• Maintain confidentiality of client information
• Document client information and progress
• Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
