Beamline Scientist Jobs

Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience, or Master’s Degree and 3+ years or experience, a Doctorate, or equivalent.

In-depth knowledge of x-ray microscopy and coherent diffraction imaging techniques.

Strong background in experimental physics, with synchrotron beamline controls and data acquisition experience highly preferred.

Experience in computational imaging. Proficiency in using relevant software and tools, such as Python, C++.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Plan and carry out synchrotron radiation research for high-resolution imaging with a focus on scanning probe-type instruments.

Knowledge in the fields of biological and environmental science, offering valuable insights and diverse perspectives.

Strong oral and written communication skills for effectively conveying scientific results and experimental plans.

Skills and expertise in the use and design of sample environments or analysis of multimodal datasets are desirable.

RD2: Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 3+ years experience, a Doctorate, or equivalent.

RD3: Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 5+ years experience, a Doctorate and 4+ years, or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will have the following responsibilities in the field of x-ray microscopy:

We expect the following knowledge, skills and experiences:

Experience in conducting in situ and operando diffraction experiments

Experience with automation and robotics

Experience with Python and/or C/C++

Knowledge of diffraction theory, crystallography, pair distribution function analysis, and approaches to advanced analysis including structural refinement and modeling

Skill in oral and written communication of scientific results and experimental plans

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of x-ray scattering fundamentals and demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of scattering data

Propose and manage the SMI operating budget, beam time allocation and schedule;

At least eight (8) years of post-PhD. experience with materials characterization based on synchrotron x-ray or neutron scattering

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Prior experience with the design, installation, commissioning and/or operation of a synchrotron beamline

Knowledge of machining capabilities, motor motion controls, and electronic components, as well as computers and computer networks

5+ years of experience in working in a technical role in a synchrotron light source beamline.

Experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing automated sample handlers typically used in Macromolecular Crystallography beamlines

Skills in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and independent judgments in technical problem-solving

Ability to rapidly learn in an environment that requires multi-disciplinary skills

Knowledge of equipment and techniques for maintenance and diagnostics relating to synchrotron beamline operations

Knowledge and skills developed through years of experience working in higher education, academic or industrial research environments.

Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks within deadlines with minimal supervision.

Familiarity with a wide range of machining and fabrication skills that utilize metallic and non-metallic materials.

Working experiences with Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated problem-solving, organization, analytical, and coordination skills including attention to detail.

Assists with the maintenance and upgrades of the ChemMatCARS UHV and HV vacuum systems and equipment.

Experience in x-ray spectroscopy and related data analysis and modeling

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Demonstrated experience in a team environment with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, technical staff, and users
