Previous animal shelter, boarding kennel, zoo keeping or veterinary clinic experience desired.

Provide accurate information and professional service to the public.

Responsible for identifying sick or injured animals and reporting such information in a timely manner.

Assists with intake exams, serving as runner, restrainer, and additional support as needed.

Assists with incoming and outgoing loading of animals being transferred to other animal welfare agencies as needed.

Perform data entry and documentation to update animal records.

Participate in leadership and management meetings and committees as assigned.

Performs all Animal Care job duties as needed.

Documents staff and volunteer complaints. Handles complaints and/or concerns with professionalism and good judgment. Involves Operations Manager as necessary.

Supervises, trains, coaches staff by providing ongoing feedback, in conjunction with the Operations Manager. Sets performance standards, directs, and motivates employees.

Keeps Operations Manager informed of departmental progress, personnel concerns, etc.

Provides input to Operations Manager regarding performance evaluations, employee coaching and disciplinary actions.

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

Cooperate and coordinate with other departments, (e.g., education, maintenance, horticulture) and outside contractors.

Participate in educational programs as assigned.

Provide innovative animal husbandry that follows AZA and USDA standards.

Maintain proper animal enclosures/props/exhibits and Life Support Systems where appropriate.

Capture, handle, and move animals using accepted Denver Zoo practices to facilitate internal movement, external shipping, medical procedures, or normal routines.
