Position: Youth Theater Director
Status: Contract/Part-time,Duration 4-6 months
Reports to: Camp and Youth Director/Senior Director of Youth and Family Programs
Compensation: $3500 -$5000 Compensation commensurate with experience and will be paid throughout the term of the contract.
Overview of the Role:
The primary role of the Youth Theater Director is to recruit participants and practice and train them until they are able to put on a performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Shape and advance the Springfield JCC’s overall organizational goals and supports an environment in which the members of the organization are engaged, inspired, and can thrive in their work.
- Lead the creation and expression of an artistic vision of excellence for the Springfield JCC and ensures that the organization is guided by this vision. Advocates for creativity and innovation on stage and in the classroom.
- Identify and selects plays that are relevant and exciting to the Springfield JCC’s audience, with particular attention to meeting the needs and interests of children, and striving to express a wide variety of voices, subject matter, and style to be inclusive of the community the Springfield JCC serves.
- Build the artistic and production teams that will work together to bring the Springfield JCC season to the stage at the highest possible standard.
- Recruit theater artists with which to collaborate and supports the development and growth of emerging artists in the field.
- Advance the Springfield JCC’s commitment to developing and producing new plays for young audiences by identifying titles, securing rights, commissioning playwrights and composers, and overseeing the play development process,
- Build goodwill within the community and acts as an ambassador of the Springfield JCC.
If the successful candidate and the Springfield JCC are in agreement, this position has the potential to become a part-time year-round position at the Springfield JCC
Qualifications & Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate substantive experience in roles requiring the exercise of leadership, including having been responsible for articulating a vision and motivating others to pursue that vision. While prior organizational experience in nonprofit theater or the field of Theatre for Young Audiences will be valued, it is not required.
The successful candidate may be a practicing theater director or could have other theater experience that excites the people of this company and our community. Individuals must demonstrate a commitment to rigorous artistic practice.
