The Loudoun County Juvenile Court Service Unit is seeking qualified candidates for Youth Services Specialist II positions serving the Youth Services Center located in Leesburg, VA.

This new facility, which opened in Spring 2023, contains 2 different residential programs:

  • Less Secure Youth Shelter for court-involved youth.
  • Secure Juvenile Detention Center

Youth Services Specialists are responsible for the welfare, safety, and security of the youth at the facility. Positions may be available in either program.

Typical Youth Services Specialist II core responsibilities include:

  • Transport youth.
  • Operate control room. (Detention Center only)
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate age-appropriate activities to promote self-growth and stimulate youth's interest.
  • Conduct inspections, security checks and searches.
  • Counsel, discipline and physically restrain youth as needed.
  • Complete reports and daily logs.
  • Supervise youth in all daily activities, such as: recreational, educational, hygiene, meals, visitation, life skills and spiritual services.
  • Mentor youth
  • May be requested to provide support to other programs within Department.
  • Additional activities may be assigned as needed.
  • Manage youths' behavior by the least restrictive means, utilizing coaching and conflict resolution skills to teach and promote pro-social behavior among the youth.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, or a related field, and two (2) years of related professional experience (with at least one (1) year at the level of a Youth Services Specialist I or its equivalent); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

Special Requirements

  • This position is required to work on either a 12-hour day or night shift.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, rotating schedules that includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires occasional stooping, bending, and /or light lifting.
  • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid, CPR for adults and Handle with Care (physical intervention) within 90 days of hire.
  • Must update certifications as needed.
  • May be at risk of exposure to various forms of communicable disease.
  • Position is considered essential and requires reporting to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency and or as required by Director.
  • Must have the ability to use automated technology and be able to operate keyboard driven equipment.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Employment is contingent on the satisfactory results of a physical exam, drug screening, TB test, Department of Motor Vehicle record check, criminal background checks and fingerprinting, to include Child Protective Services, as required by federal and state standards applicable to the facility.
