Class Concept


Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in behavioral science, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field supplemented by three years of experience in conducting needs assessments and coordinating referral services for clients in a social service organization or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.


Specific License or Certification Required:Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. May be required to possess state of Georgia certification as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, or in Special Education.


Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Example of Duties


Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate youth development activities and serve as the principle point of contact within the county for the coordination of Georgia Department of Public Health youth related programs. Responsibilities include conducting or coordinating health education workshops, community collaborations and professional development trainings.


Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.


Develops and implements state approved work plans: serves as program liaison for state programs such as Adolescent Health & Youth Development Program, and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programs; develops plans to accomplish related goals and objectives; and participates in statewide work groups as assigned.


Implements Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP): establishes PREP session calendar and location; introduces program to parents and participants; facilitates group sessions; obtains program feedback; and compiles, analyzes and contributes data from designated communities for inclusion in program reports.


Prepares and or presents programs related to teen dating violence, personal responsibility, youth related health issues, pregnancy prevention, and other youth related topics: obtains or prepares curriculum; develops schedules and strategies to encourage participation; and addresses specific issues/concerns of youth within targeted communities.


Establishes relationships with child care institutions and child placing agencies to recruit youth from foster care as participants in programs: collaborates with community based youth serving organizations; conducts community outreach presentations; and attends community meeting to promote health, prevention and healthy lifestyle programs.


Provides public education, professional training, and technical assistance: coordinates special events and media activities to raise public awareness of youth development issues; provides outreach activities to link youth with health care services; and provides youth program development training, technical assistance and support to community organizations.


Researches and secures funding sources to sustain services: researches project/program requirements of funding sources; assists with grant applications and development of grant related budgets; and monitors expenditures for budget compliance.


Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including program data reports, invoices, attendance records, mileage forms, and requests for leave; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.


Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including cost studies, productivity reports, weekly briefs, educational handouts, schedules, and State program reports; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.


Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.


Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.


Other Requirements:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.


Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.


Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, pollen, odors, temperature and weather extremes, traffic hazards, disease, violence, or rude/irate individuals.
