Description:

New Orleans Westbank Young Life is seeking a YoungLives coordinator to lead ministry in our area. This individual will work alongside New Orleans Westbank staff to reach teen moms and their babies. This individual will also work to integrate their leaders and ministry into the larger fabric of the area’s community. Each year New Orleans YoungLives takes teen moms and their children to local summer and weekend camps. Training will be provided as the individual navigates the complexities of this ministry.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health, and church relationships.

  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the YoungLives community.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.

Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.
  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders and committee how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.
  • Supervise and evaluate volunteers in leadership development, spiritual formation and ministry with teen moms.
  • Recruit, train, mobilize and retain mentors, childcare and other volunteers who reflect the community.
  • Meet regularly with the volunteer team for on-going training, ministry planning and community building.

Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.

  • Learn to plan and execute area fundraising events under the direction of an area supervisor and committee.
  • Impart vision for the YoungLives ministry to potential donors.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Observe and learn to network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community including principals, pastors, parents and potential committee members as assigned by the area director.
  • Develop relationships with schools, teen parenting programs, crisis pregnancy centers and other applicable community organizations.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize YoungLives.

Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct an existing YoungLives club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.

Contact Work

Club

  • Train and engage the team in leading club.
  • Plan and implement regular club meetings with excellence.
  • Ensure that YoungLives health and safety policies are executed.

Campaigners and Discipleship

  • Ensure that YoungLives health and safety policies are executed.
  • Plan and implement regular Campaigners meetings with excellence.
  • Create an effective discipleship strategy for teen moms.
  • Train and engage your team in leading Campaigners and the discipleship of teen moms.

Camp

  • Engage and lead the community to help in all aspects of YoungLives camping.
  • Highly encourage, recruit and train mentors to attend camp.
  • Set the example of passionately pursuing teen moms to attend camp.
  • Partner with the respective area director to plan and implement a summer and school season camping strategy for YoungLives.
  • Create and implement a prayer strategy for camp.
  • Recruit childcare workers for summer camp.

Committee

  • Partner with the respective area director to build a YoungLives board.
  • Regularly communicate and participate with the local Young Life board.

Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.

  • Comply with volunteer management procedures concerning YoungLives volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
  • Set a yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review them on a regular basis.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using missionwide applications.

Missionwide Training

  • Training may be supervised by a regional director, regional trainer or area to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
  • Core Training — Phase One (New Staff Training, Leadership I, Leadership II, Apologetics and one Winter Training course are to be completed in the first two years.)
  • May include regional training meetings and ministry skills training assigned by the area director.

Area Training

  • Individualized program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills, specifically focused on YoungLives (e.g., The 5 C’s).
  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.
  • Introduction to personal fundraising principles, including familiarity.
  • Individualized training supervised by the area director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
  • Actively engage in training provided by area leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Leadership skills that allow for collaboration with board members, the community and volunteers.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • A heart for multiethnic ministry.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Self-starter, high energy, innovative.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
