Part-Time Position (20 hours/week): $16,000-$23,000


Young Life’s mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Young Lives is Young Life’s ministry to teen parents.


Responsibilities


  • Supervise and evaluate volunteers in leadership development, spiritual formation and ministry with teen parents.
  • Meet regularly with volunteers for on-going training, ministry planning and community building.
  • Ensure that all team members are trained and execute Young Lives health and safety policies.
  • Mentors and Other Volunteers
  • Recruit, train, mobilize and retain mentors, childcare and other volunteers.
  • The 5 Cs


Contact Work (building relationships with teen parents)


  • Create an effective contact work strategy to reach teen parents.


Club (monthly gatherings for teen parents and Young Lives mentors)


  • Plan and implement regular monthly club meetings with excellence.
  • Ensure that Young Lives health and safety policies are executed.


Campaigners and Discipleship (small group Bible studies and one-on-one discipleship)


  • Create and implement an effective discipleship strategy for teen parents.


Camp


  • Engage and lead the community to help in all aspects of Young Lives camping.
  • Partner with the respective area director to plan and implement a summer camping strategy for Young Lives .
  • Highly encourage, recruit and train mentors to attend camp.
  • Recruit childcare workers (nannies) for summer camp.


Committee


  • Learn and implement Relationship Centered Engagement (RCE) with the community.
  • Comply with volunteer management procedures concerning Young Lives volunteers.
  • Administration
  • Partner with the committee and area director to secure and raise the area budget and oversee the finances.
  • Impart vision for the Young Lives ministry to potential donors.
  • Financial Management and Donor Development
  • Complete and manage the annual budget.
  • With the help of the committee, create and implement a prayer strategy for Young Lives.
  • Develop relationships with schools, teen parenting programs, crisis pregnancy centers and other applicable community organizations.
  • Regularly communicate and participate with the local Young Life committee.
  • Partner with the respective area director to build a sub-committee for Young Lives .
  • Ensure the administrative requirements are handled with excellence and in a timely manner.
  • Update ministry information in CMI.
  • Community Outreach
  • Raise ministry funds as determined by the supervisor (e.g., Year 1: Raise $5,000, Year 2: Raise $10,000, etc.).
  • Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize Young Lives .
  • Ensure that all Young Life financial policies and procedures are implemented.


Training


  • Meet with a Young Lives regional trainer once a month.
  • Meet with the Portland East Young Life (PEYL) supervisor once a month.
  • Pursue continuing education for professional development (e.g., trauma training, child development, etc.).
  • Pursue opportunities for personal development and spiritual maturity.
  • Attend monthly PEYL staff meetings.
  • Attend regional monthly Young Lives trainings.
Qualifications:


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as the job requires.
  • Ability to clearly communicate Young Life’s mission and the vision for Young Lives .
  • Understand the unique issues faced by pregnant and parenting teen moms.
  • Proven relational skills with both adolescents and adults.
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Ability to clearly communicate the Gospel and train others accordingly.
  • Commitment to a growing relationship with Christ.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working with marginalized and diverse populations — preferred but not required.
