Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in X-ray technology; one year of experience in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; X-ray Safety Certification (to be obtained within six (6) months of employment).
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform routine x-rays as directed by a physician, including setting up imaging equipment, preparing patients, operating and maintaining x-ray machines and automatic processor, preparing film, and maintaining logs of x-rays and patient information. Incumbent takes x-ray films for diagnostic purposes to assist physicians diagnosing and treating diseases and/or injuries.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Operates and maintains x-ray machines and automatic processor.
Develops, washes, dries, and files x-ray film.
Checks x-rays for clarity of image and retakes films as needed.
Prepares film for interpretation by a physician.
Maintains patient records, x-ray files, daily logs, and patient information.
Maintains quantity and quality control checks to ensure that assigned x-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.
Maintains record of all x-ray supplies.
Protects patients and other personnel from radiation hazards.
Trains new x-ray technicians as required and assists junior technicians with readings on cards.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Other Requirements:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, toxic/poisonous agents, hazardous materials, bright/dim lights, diseases/bodily fluids, and pathogenic substances.
