Job Description
Overview:
SUMMARY:

The Working Chief Engineer will assist and act for the Employer’s Site Manager in accomplishing tasks and duties in the performance and responsibilities required by the contract and the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Performs the work of all trades required by the contract, as directed by the Employer’s Site Manager. Plans, schedules, and assigns activities of the personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of the electrical, mechanical, structural, and non-structural systems of all buildings. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to standards.
  • Interprets mechanical specifications and operational manuals for maintenance engineers and other staff when needed.
  • Ensure proper inspections are made and records are kept based on company protocols.
  • Responds to After Hours Emergencies as needed to include Snow Removal Coordination and Oversight.
  • Performs the work of all trades required by the contract as directed by the Site Manager.
  • Attends and actively participates in management meetings with other heads of departments.
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns activities of personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, structural, and non-structural systems of all buildings.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Other work-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – EXPERIENCE EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Maximo CMMS Experience is preferred.
  • DC 1st Class License is required, or the ability to acquire withing the first two years of employment.
  • Microsoft Computer Proficient (Office, Word, Outlook etc.) preferred.
  • Active Secret clearance preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience working in the Commercial Facilities/ Operation and Maintenance Arena.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
  • Ability and desire to continue learning and updating skills.
  • Ability to learn and understand highly technical subjects.
  • Ability to act responsibly and ethically.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to execute proper maintenance procedures for mechanical and plant equipment including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural and non-structural systems.

  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays at times.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access boiler, air-conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and other systems by squatting, reaching, stretching, and standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Recommends promotions and transfers Operations Manager or other appropriate staff.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with CBA and company policy.
  • As assigned.
  • Provides work schedules and assignments for reporting staff.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains new positions.
