Job Description
Woodworking and Design TeacherPosition OverviewKents Hill School seeks a Woodworking Teacher, in a part-time or full-time role, for a start date of August 15, 2023. The successful candidate will be a practicing artist with expertise in a variety of media and the vision to build a woodworking program at Kents Hill. Candidates should be capable of teaching all levels of experience with an emphasis on industrial, furniture, 3D design, and woodworking. In addition to these specific areas of expertise, the successful candidate will have the ability to teach broad-based foundation-level courses.
The ideal candidate will be: Passionate about teaching students and sharing their love for woodworking.Committed to developing sophisticated problem-solving and critical-thinking strategies in all Kents Hill students.Excited to actively collaborate in the 4D curriculum through course design, pedagogy, and assessment.Culturally competent with skills for engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. A teacher in a full-time role will be committed to the entire student experience and want to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. Typically, this includes: Advising a group of students.Performing residential duty. Coaching or assistant coaching for two athletic seasons or running other afternoon activities programs.SKILLS & REQUIREMENTSKnowledge of general woodworking machinery: jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, etc.Knowledge of various building materials, wood species, and hardwood characteristics Experienced in machine maintenance and safety procedures Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of tools, equipment, and shop space Installing/uninstalling student work in gallery and exhibit spaces Able to lift and carry 50 lbs Knowledge of safe hand tool practices Finishing experience, HVLP, and hand-applied techniques Must have a valid drivers license RESPONSIBILITIESOversee all projects in the woodworking studio Maintain a well-organized and clean shop space Order and receive all building materials and keep shop supplies in stock Make local pick-ups Help keep an accurate inventory of material and equipment HOW TO APPLYPlease send a cover letter and resume to Dean of Faculty Katie Petrillo at [email protected] with the subject line Woodworking 2023.
