The Welding Program Lead Instructor will provide instruction and coordination for all current and future VPCC welding courses. This position supports course content reviews and revisions, helps ensure instructional consistency and quality across all courses and instructors, assists with inventory monitoring and the associated procurement process, contributes to recruiting and training both new students and new instructors, and engages with employer partners to better understand their needs and promote pathways to employment for welding course completers.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required:
  • Considerable experience working as a Welder.
  • Prior teaching or training experience in a workplace or community/technical college setting.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.


Specialized knowledge and experience in:
  • Open-root pipe using SMAW and GTAW processes.
  • Weld joint geometry and welding terminology.
  • Fillet welds in all positions using established welding processes.
  • Groove welds with backing plate using established welding processes.
  • Groove welds without backing plate using the established welding processes.
  • Setup and operation of Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting and Plasma Cutting equipment.
  • Safe work practices in the welding field.
  • Basic welding drawings and Welding Symbols.

Skills
  • Good computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.

Ability to:
  • Manage a class which includes live work, lectures and labs on site and off site.
  • Adapt to state requirements, local needs, and national trends.
  • Apply welding theories to practical applications.
  • Maintain complete, accurate educational records.
  • Measure, assess and align learner outcomes within courses.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
  • Use Email (Outlook), Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Promote higher-order thinking and problem solving among educational participants.
  • Assess learner performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
  • Adhere to established standards for educational quality.
  • Serve the needs of traditional and non-traditional students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • American Welding Society credentials (e.g., CWI and CWE).
  • AWS Certified Welding Educator
  • Classroom Welding instruction experience
  • Experience with American Welding Society (AWS) certification process and AWS accredited test facility operations.
  • Associate degree in the Career and Technical Education field.
