Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for the Welding & Joining Technology program. The responsibilities of this position relate to day, evening, and online programs with regard to traditional and dual-enrolled students.
Essential Functions

Instruction
- Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
- Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the discipline
- Instructs courses in a classroom/lab/clinic/field environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry
- Utilizes current technology in the classroom/lab/clinic
- Teaches face-to-face, hybrid, or on-campus, as needed, in accordance with college faculty loads
- Provides instruction in theory and practical applications of the discipline in accordance with academic state standards
- Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences
- Grades all coursework in a timely manner
- Maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the teaching discipline.
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports
Safety/Technology
- Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the Welding & Joining Technology program.
- Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times
- Suggests new/updated technology to remain current with trends and developments within the field.
- Supports faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order
Curriculum/Student and Program Learning Outcomes
- Submits reports and data with respect to accrediting bodies.
- Reviews and edits master course shells in the online learning platform as necessary.
- Works collaboratively with faculty within the discipline to establish, measure and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success and submits to the appropriate program chair/director.
- Develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives.
- Prepares lesson plans for instruction.
Supports Program Director/Division Deans/Associate Deans
- Prepares budget requests.
- Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Serves on committees and project assignments as necessary.
- Requests and maintains supplies and equipment.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional classroom/lab/clinical environment. This role routinely uses standard office/classroom/lab equipment and technologies.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time instructional position. The workload is Monday-Friday day/evening hours. Weekends based on need.
Travel
Traveling to other campuses is a possibility for teaching assignments, meetings, training, and professional development.
Required Education and Experience
- Three (3) years out of the past seven (7) years of experience in Welding.
- The successful candidate must possess or pass NCCER Instructor Certification Class.
- Successful candidates must complete specified AWS welding tests is a condition of employment.
- Diploma in Welding from an accredited institution
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge and experience in the use of the Internet, Email, Windows, Microsoft Office, KMS, Blackboard, Banner, TaskStream
- 10+ years’ experience in Welding
- AWS or other Welding Certification
- Directly Related Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- NCCER Certified Instructor
- Pipe Welding experience
- Associate’s Degree in Welding & Joining Technology from an accredited institution.
