D&G Machine supply’s several Nationwide Industries that include: Aerospace, Computer Chip Production, Defense Contracts, Medical, Power Generation, and Maine’s Paper Industry.

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Weld Inspector, your primary responsibility is to ensure the quality and compliance of welded structures, components, and assemblies in accordance with AWS, ASNT or MIL standards. You will inspect welds visually and use various NDT testing methods to identify defects, verify weld specifications, and assess the overall structural integrity of the welded workpieces. Collaborating with welding personnel, engineers, and supervisors, you will provide feedback and recommendations for improvements to ensure the highest level of welding quality and adherence to project requirements. Documentation and reporting of inspection results will be a critical part of your role, adhering to strict safety standards and the successful execution of welding projects is a must.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs inspections and quality control checks at various stages of the welding process, including pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections.
  • Participates in welder qualification testing and assessment of welding procedures to ensure they meet required specifications.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed inspection records and documentation for quality assurance purposes.
  • Stays updated with advancements in welding technology, techniques, and industry standards to continuously improve inspection processes and methodologies.
  • Conducts visual inspections of welds to identify defects and ensure compliance with welding standards and specifications.
  • Measures and verifies weld dimensions, joint configurations, and alignments against specified requirements.
  • Maintains a strong customer service focus.
  • Verifies compliance with welding codes, standards, and regulations set forth by relevant authorities and organizations. (AWS, ASNT, MIL customer Specs.)
  • Provides guidance and training to welding personnel on proper welding techniques and best practices for quality assurance.
  • Communicates and deals with customers and other parties in person in such a manner as to benefit the professional reputation of D&G Machine.
  • Interprets welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper weld execution.
  • Utilizes non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing to assess weld quality and integrity.
  • Collaborates with welding personnel, engineers, and supervisors to address welding-related issues and provide feedback on weld quality improvement.
  • Identifies potential safety hazards related to welding operations and reports deficiencies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Monitors and assess welding equipment for calibration, maintenance, and proper functionality.

Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing), listen, assess, and problem solve.
  • Knowledge of TIG, MIG, laser, butt, and arc welding techniques.
  • Training in Non-Destructive testing (VT, MT and PT) will be provided.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, self-motivated and work as part of the team.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and documents.
  • 1-3 years in weld inspection or related experience preferred. (Ie. Welding)
  • Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and background check.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including AWS, ASME, API.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a manufacturing environment in the Fabrication Plant located in Gorham, Maine. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role routinely uses standard measuring tools such as rulers, calipers, gauges, and micrometers. This role occasionally uses standard production equipment such as power tools and other mechanic hand tools. This role is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
