Position Overview
The best Warehouse Leads are multi-functional. They have the ability to work with all functions including scheduling, production, inventory, shipping, receiving, and purchasing in coordinating all aspects of the product throughout its lifecycle. This includes leading and developing process and procedures to properly manage and control inventory levels while maximizing the utilization of space and productivity. Their greatest skill is having the ability to understand the product/customer/quality and relate this to the team. Also, to understand and respect the critical role of other departments on the team.
Organization
A strong predictor of success for a warehouse lead is the ability to coordinate activities of other functional departments. The warehouse lead is responsible for a small direct staff. He/she must influence others through a strong understanding of product needs, and an ability to make tough financial/product decisions and trade-offs. It’s important to define the departments and people the warehouse lead will collaborate with up-front and develop team partnership. The warehouse lead will also assist with loading and unloading trucks.
Performance Objectives
Every job performance objectives that determine job success.
  • Conduct a review of all stocking programs. Work with customer service and scheduling to understand current stocking programs and develop a system to help manage current inventory levels, ways to communicate any deviations and alerts for slow moving material.
  • Coordinate cycle count program as part of inventory management. Work with production and shipping/receiving to determine adequacy of existing inventory cycle count program and tools. Implement changes during the next quarter.
  • Conduct a review of current utilization of space and product flow. Research material flow and storage to implement best practices and maximize product flow to increase productivity and utilization of available warehouse space. Work with main facility to lead inventory transfer process to ensure accuracy.
  • Develop system tools to identify slow moving products . Take the lead on learning current systems in place and designing better processes to identify slow moving products within a 30-day timeframe on a continuous basis to assist in inventory control.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound customer and supplier transportation. Work with shipping/receiving lead to understand transportation scheduling and procurement procedures and assist on a regular basis. Recommend process improvements.
  • Lead the development of the warehouse inventory program. Take the lead on preparing processes and procedures to properly manage and control inventory levels within 120 days, coordinating with inventory and production teams. This needs to consist of analysis, assessment of technology, and historical product sales research. Include current floor organization and process in research to identify weaknesses and areas needing improvement.
Experience
A warehouse lead at Pregis needs to have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in the various stages of inventory and shipping/receiving management. Must have forklift experience. This includes cycle counts, oversee and supervising staff, creating processes, and managing transportation. Solid knowledge in ERP systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook), and inventory management very important. Experience with freight procurement would be helpful.
