Job Description

The Company

Sofar is on a mission to connect the world's oceans. We design, build, and deploy the largest privately owned network of marine weather sensors to power the world's best marine weather forecasts. Our data helps our customers to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, delivering tools to governments and other stakeholders to understand impacts of climate change on extreme weather and ocean health. We live on Planet Ocean, and our goal is to create the ocean intelligence needed to ensure a sustainable future.

The Role

Sofar Ocean builds and deploys thousands of low-cost, global, open ocean sensors to remote and harsh environments, and we're growing! We're seeking an Inventory & Warehouse Specialist to join our Supply Chain team.

You are an organized, hands-on multitasker who enjoys wearing many hats in a small and fast-moving team. You'll play a core role in managing inventory levels, incoming receiving, inventory control, assisting with cycle counts, pick/pack, shipping, along with a variety of other tasks to support the supply chain and production teams.

Impact You Will Own:

  • Provide QC/QA functions for mechanical and electrical materials.
  • Perform daily analysis to predict potential inventory problems.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inventory operations, stock levels, and adjustments.
  • Examine the levels of supplies and raw material to determine shortages.
  • Support shipping & logistics functions as necessary.
  • Supporting, evaluating and reporting on warehouse productivity.
  • Maintaining records, reporting relevant information, and preparing any necessary documentation.
  • Checking orders, bills, items received, inventory, and deliveries for accuracy.
  • Works closely with supply chain, production and engineering to track and coordinate the receipt, storage, and timely delivery of goods and materials.
  • Support quarterly, annual cycle counts.
  • Process, pick and ship orders accurately.
  • Can navigate through MRP and PLM systems to review stock and BOM structure
  • Receiving, documenting, processing, labeling, and storing of all incoming stock.
  • Ensuring basic maintenance standards and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Support Production in completing stock adjustments, transfers, cycle counts and material picking and packing.
  • Comparing purchase orders with invoices and packaging lists per 3 way tie out.
  • Implement a Kanban system on consumables, shipping supplies, etc.
  • Document daily deliveries and shipments to update inventory.

About You

  • Intermediate understanding of general ERP/MRP transactions
  • Comfortable and able to operate successfully in ambiguous and rapidly changing growth environments.
  • Track record of promoting a culture of high performance and accountability.
  • Minimum 2-3 years hands on experience with receiving, inventory control, pick/pack and shipping tasks and activities, preferably in a start-up environment.
  • Bonus points for electro-mechanical material handling and production experience.
  • Trustworthy and credible. Strong integrity.
  • Fast-thinking, collaborative and able to communicate clearly. Can talk through difficult issues with colleagues and make decisions based on evidence and argument, not ego or title.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required.
  • You have a deep passion for the Ocean
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills.

Physical Challenges

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to operate hand truck, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs

Estimated Salary Range

  • The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.
  • $24 - $32 per hour

Sofar's Commitment to Climate Justice

We at Sofar Ocean acknowledge that careers in the marine sciences "... have traditionally been, and remain, non-diverse work environments", thereby limiting the entry and prosperity of underrepresented groups in the space. (Johri et al., 2021) Many of these same groups are disproportionately affected by climate change, and are often excluded from decision making that directly address their interests and needs.

We are committed to addressing these climate injustices and highly encourage people who identify as women, LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to apply.

Employee Conduct

It is the responsibility of every employee to contribute to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

Equal Employment Opportunity

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other factors prohibited by law.
