Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides leadership for departments of Quality, Safety and Infection Prevention (QSIP) at Corewell Health East. Working in conjunction with the Corewell Health East Region SVP, Chief Quality & Safety Officer, the Vice President for Quality and Safety is responsible for leading Corewell Health East region quality infrastructure and will oversee quality personnel and initiatives throughout the East region. Functions as leader of operations, working in direct partnership with SVP, Chief Quality & Safety Officer Corewell Health East. Working in conjunction with hospital-based quality directors, will focus on implementation of system and regional quality goals. Will provide oversight for regional pay programs and ensure robust action plans are in place to optimize capture. Responsible for leading the QSIP teams to enhance communication of cascading performance using data-driven discussions to create change at all levels of the organization. Expected to successfully navigate a highly matrixed and complex organization and effectively present problems and solutions in a persuasive and collaborative manner. Brings extensive systems experience to lead, influence, and inspire improvement in the listed domains above across Corewell Health East. Oversight of the fiscal management, resource allocation, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development and performance improvement activities and research development and execution in this area.

Guides Board of Directors Quality & Safety Committee and subcommittee reporting structure to best guide quality & safety improvement efforts for the Corewell Health East. Collaborating with the SVP, Chief Quality & Safety Officer, develops Quality and Safety content for the Quality and Safety Committee of the Board of Directors, including making regular presentations to this group. Organizes and manages regional Patient Care Improvement Committee (PCIC). Partners with local quality & safety teams to establish standards for health system quality & safety matrixes.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Quality, Safety, Infection Prevention

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with the SVP, Chief Quality & Safety Officer East, executives, medical directors, medical staff, administrative directors, and staff in other departments and professional groups to develop, implement, and evaluate programs, services, and operational plans that support the delivery of patient care, effective workforce development utilization, facilities development and enhancement, as well as equipment necessary to ensure exceptional experiences for patients, families and others. Serves as a resource for all of Corewell Health East, providing strategy, support, and guidance on quality and experience and reducing suffering with a focus on colleagues, patients, and community.
  • Plans, prepares, implements, monitors, and controls assigned areas of operational capital budgets for complete budgeting of these strategies as well as the department.
  • Communicates, collaborates, networks with, and acts as a consultant to key stakeholders in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services across the organization and appropriate utilization of resources. Maintains and develops local, regional, and national networks in healthcare management, operations, and innovative practices to monitor consumer trends and effective strategies. Engages in a strategic environmental assessment within the healthcare industry and beyond regarding industry and consumer trends.
  • Coordinate quality initiatives with system office of Quality, Safety, Experience (SQSE)
  • Drives region towards improvement of Metrics-that-Matter
  • Oversee activity of Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs) and Registries
  • Oversee regional Director of Quality Improvement, ensuring that all QI/PI activity is well aligned to system and regional quality goals.
  • Ensure development of regional service line QSIP leads and oversee their activity, providing support, guidance, and collaboration towards service line goals.
  • Supports Patient Safety Officers in their management of quality at the acute care sites and within Beaumont Medical group. Ensure they are provided with appropriate data. Provide guidance, support, and collaboration.
  • Maintain vigilant oversight of all reputation programs including but not limited to CMS Star Program, Vizient, Leapfrog.
  • Closely monitor and work to optimize performance within all relevant pay-for-performance programs.
  • Mentor, coach, and partner with acute care site quality directors towards improvement of quality goals
  • Coordinate data requests and reports with Integrated Data Analytics (IDA), ensuring East region has necessary data to advance quality goals
  • Work closely with regional leads of patient experience and risk/safety to ensure that all work done within QSIP department is aligned and coordinated.
  • Oversees department Directors and Teams and acts as a consultant to executive and director level peers regarding opportunities and challenges. May also act as a consultant with physician level interaction to ensure and support professional outcomes for the providers. This is done in conjunction with the physician leadership throughout the organization. Provides guidance and feedback to team facilitators and team leaders on skill development and team effectiveness. Participates in System-wide training courses on QSIP-related topics
  • Provides guidance and feedback to management, administrators, and department heads on their application of quality concepts and safety principles. Implements problem-solving tools and techniques. Collaborates with Corewell Health quality staff and other Corewell Health Hospitals to share tools and techniques developed at Corewell Health East.
  • Develops partnerships and support for QSIP throughout all Corewell Health East. This is done through influence and partnering with key stakeholders throughout the System. Serves on key committees both within the organization and within the community. Is visible and accessible.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education / Training:
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing or related field, required.
  • Work Experience:
  • Demonstrated ability to assess organizational needs, set priorities, implement projects, and assess outcomes and communicate to organization.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, and outcome reporting.
  • Previous experience in managing performance improvement activities and data management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in the formation of highly productive and collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary teams and healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with nursing leaders, physicians in acute and preventive care environments.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a healthcare leadership role with increased responsibility.
