Job Description

JOB SUMMARY


The position is a part of a team who, collectively, will assist with the supervision of the Visitor Experience staff and managing ticketed events. This individual will specifically work to improve the visitor experience as it relates to Performing Arts events, serving as event manager for all Performing Arts events and working collaboratively with members of the Performing Arts department to provide seamless execution of Performing Arts events as it relates to box office management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all necessary opening and close-out procedures as well as maintaining daily operations at the box office.
  • Work collaboratively to strategize ways to reach new audiences.
  • Attend and provide insight at weekly Specialist and other department/programmatic meetings.
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to select events where volunteer ushers can be utilized.
  • Work with patrons and staff to facilitate advance and day of accessibility requests.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons of the Walker Art Center for in person, online, and phone interactions.
  • Willingness to take on special assignments as able and explore new opportunities to add value to the job.
  • Manage all box office related responsibilities including collective supervision of part-time Visitor Experience staff.
  • Manage all Performing Arts events including Tessitura administration, event builds, managing comps/holds, and complex event management.
  • Work with Event Production, Performing Arts, Marketing, Facility Rental, co-presenting partners, artists, donors and VIP’s as needed to organize event logistics and serve as interdepartmental liaison on behalf of Visitor Experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience in customer service and box office procedures.
  • Computer skills, including computerized ticketing and CRM membership systems (Tessitura) and Excel strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaborate successfully with multiple personalities and communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and strong problem solving skills in a quick and resourceful manner to assist audience members in a busy, live performance setting.
  • Minimum one-year experience with event management.
  • Excellent organizational, clerical, and oral/written communication skills with the ability to set priorities, and follow and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and flexible individual.
  • An interest in non-profit and arts organizations preferred – ability to converse about themes in contemporary art and share rich information regarding Walker programs and exhibitions required.
  • Willingness to take on responsibilities and follow through on projects with resiliency in an ever-changing environment.
  • Cash-handling and reporting experience essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Prolonged standing and moderate usage of stairs during event managing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10-15 pounds at times.

Job Specifications

  • This position is considered full-time, non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The compensation for this role is $24.48 hourly (35 hours/week). The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
  • This position is covered by the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) labor contract.
  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
