Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice seeking a detail-oriented, thorough, and organized Violence Intervention Specialist to join our agency! This position will develop, implement, and monitor gang and violence intervention program planning for reduced recidivism and improved intervention services, and ensure appropriate allocation of services and personnel in support of program objectives.

This position is hybrid and will travel throughout different regions in the Commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to independently gather and interpret data, draw conclusions, and implement solutions; write grants; clearly present information in written and verbal formats; manage multiple tasks and projects; work independently;
  • Ability to develop and plan policies, standards, regulations, legislation, goals, and strategies; to interpret data, policies and procedures and make recommendations related to management and operational issues and resource deployment;
  • Considerable background in gang intervention or gun violence programming;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system; case management guidelines, and juvenile justice program development;
  • Considerable knowledge and experience directly supervising youth on supervision status, at-risk, and delinquent, extensive history working with service providers, alternate placements, and detention center staff;
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft and other computer software including spreadsheets, word processing, data bases, and presentation packages;

Additional Considerations

  • Training and/or experience in research, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
