Job Description
Overview:
FibroGen seeks a seasoned IP leader with significant patent litigation experience. S/he will lead FibroGen’s IP Legal team, and primary responsibilities will include management of FibroGen’s patent litigation matters (both assertions and defense in both court actions and administrative patent proceedings such as IPRs, oppositions, etc.), including managing outside counsel. The position will also require/may also include involvement in development and implementation of high-level patent prosecution and strategy, and patent portfolio management.
This position involves responsibilities in all aspects of FibroGen’s worldwide offensive and defensive patent litigation program. You will be involved in developing and implementing specific cases and overall litigation strategy, supervising outside counsel, and providing internal litigation support. You will work closely with GC and other attorneys and members of the company’s IP department.
Experience in coordinating preparation for litigation is highly desirable. Some in-house experience managing outside counsel on patent cases also would be a plus.
The right person for this position will have 15+ years of law experience in all aspects of litigating high-stakes patent cases from complaint through resolution. The position would be ideal for someone who is experienced at litigating patent cases, but who is ready to leave the law firm. The right candidate will have a strong general understanding of the pharmaceuticals industry, have high ethical standards, be able to handle a large case load, and be flexible. This position requires willingness and ability to travel as required.
Requirements:
  • Experience before the USPTO, including post grant proceedings, a plus.
  • Management experience of IP personnel/department and outside counsel highly desirable.
  • Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, etc.) degree preferred.
  • Additional experience with patent assertions, patent enforcement and portfolio analysis and management a plus.
  • USPTO registration required.
  • California State Bar certification or ability to obtain CA In-House Counsel certification.
  • Patent Litigation experience required, patent prosecution experience a plus.
  • J.D. 15+ years.
  • International prosecution and litigation experience, including experience before the ITC, and opposition and nullity hearings, a plus.
  • Involvement in or management of multi-jurisdictional/multi-party patent litigation a plus.
  • Experience with claim construction analysis a plus.
  • Mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of IP law in the life sciences context

SALARY RANGE
$309,600.00-$360,100.00
