Job Description

The purpose of this role is to drive employee development and provide effective human resource initiatives to deliver a high-performance culture and work environment. Reporting to the EVP, CHRO, this role will serve as the leader of BXP’s HR Business Advisory team. The role will collaborate with Senior Leadership to both oversee and implement HR initiatives companywide and across all business functions. The VP will specifically focus on the areas of talent management and will provide HR expertise to implement corporate and regional HR initiatives in performance management, employee relations, coaching, employment and legal compliance, training and professional development and overall organizational effectiveness.

The VP will provide HR leadership counsel and will be both strategic and “hands on”. This role will manage a talented Regional HR Business Partner team that supports regional HR initiatives and, in partnership with the CHRO, will oversee and manage all Corporate HR initiatives. The VP is responsible for establishing, building, and maintaining effective relationships with all employees and will work in collaboration with the SVP, Total Rewards, VP, Talent Acquisitions, and all members of HR team to implement, coordinate, and maintain HR programs, policies, and processes, while providing strong HR operational, analytical, and technical expertise to support HR’s strategic and operational goals. The role will be recognized as an HR subject matter expert and will serve as an architect of people strategy that aligns with BXP’s business objectives.

Essential Functions:

Your Impact & Responsibilities:

Performance Management, Coaching, Training & Development

  • Serve as an internal consultant and coach to leadership teams, managers, and colleagues on HR and people management issues. Deliver impact through influence and empathy.
  • Oversee organizational training and development efforts to include the research, development and delivery of training and other employee engagement initiatives.
  • Implement HR initiatives to build the human capital of BXP through performance management, coaching, and training and development to motivate individuals to achieve their maximum potential and drive engagement. Promote and sustain our culture of respect and accountability.
  • Guide firm through performance management, talent management, and similar practices that align with the values and mission of BXP. Coach management to set clear, meaningful goals and objectives utilizing performance metrics to assure exceptional results. Continually build upon and improve these best practices for the employee population to support high performing teams.
  • Possess and model strong business ethics, integrity, and accountability consistent with the values of the HR department and Company.
  • Further build the Company’s human capital via career path planning, including cross-training and developmental assignments that prepare individuals for advancement. Successfully identify and address gaps in competency, knowledge and skill sets.

Employee Relations

  • Provide excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills and a keen awareness of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, and other employment related laws and regulations.
  • Support the continued evolution of technology to enhance the employee experience.
  • Assist in administration of compensation program and policies.
  • Demonstrate discretion and professionalism for all staff at all times.
  • Guide and/or conduct, compile and analyze exit interviews and prepare turnover data to determine trends and advise on initiatives to engage and retain valued staff.
  • Guide or conduct thorough non-biased investigations. Act as liaison to resolve disputes.
  • Manage/advise on all employee relations issues from beginning to end, including partnering with HRBP team on performance improvement plans, investigating complaints, issuing performance warnings, and managing separations, all while mitigating risks/ensuring compliance and proper documentation. As warranted, partner with EVP, CHRO and General Counsel on complex issues.
  • Create a positive employee relations environment through timely response to inquiries or issues, including the coaching of managers and leaders around sensitive employee issues.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees in the use and consistent application of company policies and practices and employment laws/regulations.
  • Serve as a role model to others and actively uphold the values of BXP by promoting diversity, inclusion, equality and transparency in the workplace. Support the DEI Committee and Talent Acquisitions team to continue to develop effective strategies to recruit and attract a more diverse applicant pool and develop and increase management practices and policies that emphasize inclusion, retention and empowerment of underrepresented people in the organization.

People and Project Management

  • In collaboration with HRBP’s, and in alignment with corporate and regional leadership, develop and execute programs to meet human capital business needs, engagement and performance goals.
  • Actively think both strategically and creatively to make appropriate recommendations and/or interpretations on project planning and execution.
  • Leverage information from various sources to prioritize and make decisions, identify patterns, themes and trends that may have immediate or future impact to BXP.
  • Lead an established team of HR Business Partners/Advisors with a coaching and mentorship mindset and a commitment to their professional development.
  • Establish and maintain strategic, effective support and delivery of HR projects and objectives through clear communications and expectations coupled with effective team/project management.
  • Organize and maintain work flow and follow up tasks, action items, business decisions, issues and questions to ensure projects meet deadlines and delivered on schedule.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Results- oriented and a self-starter who enjoys a challenge and is dedicated to “rolling up the sleeves” and getting the job done with minimal support and direction.
  • Experience working within an organizational structure with multiple locations/regions requiring exceptional relationship building skills.
  • Ability to educate and influence decisions based on internal data, best practices, policies, process, protocol, and market intelligence.
  • A BA/BS degree required, MBA or Employment Law background highly desirable. 10 + years Human Resources leadership experience specifically in employment & employee relations required, PHR and previous management of HR professionals preferred.
  • Operates with an appreciation for the delicate balance between consistency and flexibility to meet Corporate/Regional needs. Proven ability to maintain discretion in confidential situations.
  • Serves as an HR and BXP ambassador who displays effective judgment and strong relationship and interpersonal skills; and the ability to interface with all levels across the entire organization.
  • Proven ability to engage with senior leadership, management, colleagues, and direct reports to establish a motivating and entrepreneurial environment.

Internal and External Contacts:

  • Interfaces regularly with all levels of employees within Boston Properties.
  • Interfaces regularly with HR colleagues, Corporate & Regional teams, consultants and vendors.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to EVP, CHRO who provides supervision, guidance, and evaluates work performance on a periodic basis.
