Here is a glimpse of the job
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) provides the highest standard of total veterinary care for your beloved animal patients. The Veterinary Technician Assistant will provide support to clinicians, residents, and interns by assisting with patient care admitted to the hospital. This position will provide physical restraint for safe handling of patients, perform and/or assist with laboratory collection, record patient data, monitor clinical status, clean and disinfect cages, and assist in providing life sustaining emergency care for the Small Animal ICU. Successful candidates will have a desire to learn new skills and demonstrate their ability to work in an inclusive team environment. The veterinary field is always evolving, and this position allows you to further develop and advance your skills.
The VMTH offers additional incentives for our veterinary technician assistant staff to balance their careers, family, and pets. The VMTH provides a generous cellphone allowance, opportunities for continuing education at the local, state, and national level, scrubs, discounted pet care, and much more. Shift differential pay is available for eligible shifts. There is opportunity for career ladder advancement as well as opportunity for licensed veterinary technicians to work towards specialty certification. The Blinn Veterinary Technology Program is housed in the same building as the VMTH. There are flexible work schedules for evening, overnight and weekend shifts in some service areas of the VMTH.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for an entry level include: High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of experience in animal husbandry.
Preferred qualifications: Relevant training on animal care / husbandry. Two or more years of experience in a small animal veterinary hospital, referral clinic or specialty hospital environment. Certified Veterinary Assistant.

Salary Range: $16.35 - $17.99
Work Schedule: The position is part time and candidates must have the ability to work alternative shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call duty.
Other Requirements and Factors: Must have the ability to work around animals, hay, or dust. Ability to move heavy loads.
Essential Personnel: This position is considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless or until relieved by their direct supervisor.
