Summary
The staff vascular sonographer's primary responsibilities are the performance of high quality vascular ultrasound examinations primarily in outpatient environments according to physician’s orders, utilizing complex ultrasound equipment. Confidently identify, evaluate and document the presence or absence of vascular pathology adhering to the standards established by the Society of Vascular Ultrasound. Assist the vascular surgeon in the performance of venous ablations in the OR, as well as other special procedures. Participate in on going quality assurance and quality improvement processes in addition to required education within the Vascular Lab. Adheres to departmental policies and philosophies to provide customers with the highest quality service. Reports to the labs Technical Director/ Supervisor.

Essential Functions
  • Knowledge and proficiency with current hospital information systems (EPIC), Vascular structural reporting and PACs archive/ retrieval. Basic computer knowledge required.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with physicians, colleagues and support staff in accordance with the Confluence Health standards to promote best quality patient care.
  • Attends required departmental meetings, in-services, peer review and case presentations Participates and attends required quarterly quality improvement meetings and processes to satisfy the mandatory requirements of our IAC designation.
  • Maintains required continuing medical education credits for professional credential and IAC specific requirements.
  • Maintains Professional certification in vascular ultrasound through ARDMS and or CCI.
  • Participates in the training and orientation of vascular sonographer students completing their clinical internship.
  • Prepare a preliminary sonographer structured report including all pertinent data for the reading vascular surgeon in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform independently high quality diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations following Confluence Health's Vascular department policies and procedures, adhering to the current standards established by Society of Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Recognize and alert the attending reading physician of dangerous or critical findings which need immediate attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist the physician in the performance of venous ablation procedures and other special procedures.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Position Requirements
Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is an essential requirement of working at Confluence Health. Religious and medical exemptions will be considered upon request.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Valid state driver’s license and reliable vehicle transportation.
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal vascular technology ultrasound training program (2-4 years) and 4 years full time clinical experience in a dedicated vascular laboratory. Active status RVT required.
  • Or approximately 2 years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with minimum of 5 years full time experience in a dedicated vascular laboratory and active status RVT.
  • Or graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with at least 4 years additional full-time clinical experience in a dedicated vascular lab and active status RVT.

  • A working knowledge of computers, accurate keyboarding skills, and email communication.
