Overview:

  • This position may be required to transport medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law provides assistance and information to incoming patients, visitors, and staff to facilitate their entrance to and exit from the hospital.
  • Provides valet parking services for hospital patients and visitors, assists with traffic control in hospital parking areas, and maintains accurate documentation regarding valet parked vehicles.
  • This position is responsible for transporting patients to and from their bed and other areas such as therapy, surgery, or radiology.
  • The position has no responsibility for providing patient care.
  • Other responsibilities include retrieving medical records, lab results, supplies, and medications.

AVAILABLE SHIFTS (Part-Time & Full-Time) - FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES

  • EVENING: 6 PM - 10 PM
  • NIGHTS: 11 PM - 7 AM
  • MORNING: 7 AM - 1 PM
  • AFTERNOON: 1 PM - 6 PM

Responsibilities

  • Works as part of a team in keeping staging areas clear and maintaining smooth traffic flow in and out of the parking areas and terraces.
  • Directs and assists patients and visitors as they enter and exit the hospital parking areas, hospital lobby and assists patients exiting and entering their vehicles.
  • Properly uses EPIC patient transport system.
  • Transports expired patients to the morgue by stretcher.
  • Performs simple repairs to parking control equipment and assists patients and visitors with minor repairs such as flat tires and dead batteries.
  • Parks and retrieves patient vehicles upon arrival and departure in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Coordinates with Parking Services and security to patrol and enforce patient and visitor parking areas.
  • Removes snow and ice from hospital entrance and terrace areas.
  • Addresses lighting and safety issues located in the parking areas and assists in keeping areas free of debris.
  • Ensures that vehicles are returned in the same condition in which they were received.
  • Picks up and delivers routine and STAT laboratory specimens, blood and medical items.
  • Collaborates with other employees to ensure that the needs of the patient and department are met.
  • Assists in emergency situations by directing emergency vehicles and maintaining traffic control as needed.
  • Initiates the call, upon patient discharge, alerting all departments involved in the bed turnover process.
  • Investigates and reports accidents within parking valet areas and educates involved patrons on how to proceed regarding the damage.
  • Handles items such as IV bags, oxygen masks, oxygen tanks, urine drainage bags, blood bags, and medical monitoring devices that may be attached to the patient during transport.
  • Transfers patients from one area to another by wheelchair, bed, or stretcher.
  • Documents all vehicle tag information, claim numbers, and key storage locations accurately.
  • Assists in the transport of essential supplies during traumas and cardiac arrests.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • Ability to develop relationships with patients, guests, and coworkers.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Have knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient information is guarded and respected.
  • Ability to display active listening and verbalize empathy.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Current, valid Utah driver's license at time of hire with no moving violations in the preceding two years.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
