Job Description
Company Description

The future. It’s on you. You & Western Digital.

We’ve been storing the world’s data for more than 50 years. Once, it was the most important thing we could do for data. Now we’re helping the world capture, preserve, access and transform data in a way only we can.

The most game-changing companies, consumers, professionals, and governments come to us for the technologies and solutions they need to capture, preserve, access, and transform their data.

But we can’t do it alone. Today’s exceptional data challenges require your exceptional skills. It’s You & Us. Together, we’re the next big thing in data.

Western Digital® data-centric solutions are found under the G-Technology™, HGST, SanDisk®, Tegile™, Upthere™, and WD® brands.

As the User Research Analyst, you will be responsible for conducting user research activities to inform product strategy, development, and marketing decisions. You will collaborate with the product management, engineering, design, and marketing teams to identify user needs, behaviors, preferences, and pain points across different segments and markets. You will design and execute qualitative and quantitative research studies, analyze and synthesize data, communicate insights and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders, and build processes/programs to facilitate extended research throughout the organization. You will also manage relationships with external research vendors and partners and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders, including product managers, designers, engineers, and marketers, using compelling visuals, reports, presentations, and other formats.
  • Support the user research function within the product management team, including hiring, coaching, and mentoring a team of researchers.
  • Design and conduct user research studies, including interviews, surveys, usability tests, card sorts, diary studies, and ethnographic research, among others.
  • Build processes and platforms that others within the organization can perform their own research with support from the research team.
  • Analyze and synthesize research data to extract key insights, themes, trends, and patterns that inform product strategy, development, and marketing decisions.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, design, and marketing teams to define research objectives, hypotheses, and KPIs that align with business goals and customer needs.
  • Manage relationships with external research vendors and partners, including scoping, budgeting, contracting, and quality control.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in user research, and share knowledge and expertise with the broader product management team and organization.

Qualifications
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex research findings and recommendations to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with consumer storage products, technologies, and markets is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of experience in user research or market research, preferably in a consumer technology or software company.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple research projects in parallel, on time, and on budget.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong knowledge and skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, tools, and techniques, including survey design, interview moderation, usability testing, data analysis, and synthesis.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect data, insights, and recommendations to business goals and customer needs.
  • Passion for user-centered design, innovation, and customer satisfaction, with a curiosity and empathy for people and their needs, behaviors, and motivations.
