Job Summary
Join UT Southwestern as a Unit Secretary for on our 8 Blue Medical Intensive Care Unit. 8 Blue Medical Intensive Care Unit Unit is a fast-paced medical unit. Patients and families are at the center of everything we do on our unit. UT Southwestern focuses on a Relationship-Based Care nursing method that allows for a stronger connection between patients and our caregivers. This allows for a more individualized and appropriate type of care. Job Duties
Welcome patients and visitors to 8 Blue Medical Intensive Care Unit.
Assign Vocera to nursing staff and prepare assignment sheet.
Prepare charts for new admissions/transfers and maintain patients’ charts with facesheets and labels.
Answer phone calls, call lights, and ensures patient requests are disseminated to nursing staff as appropriate. Communicates repeated patient requests to appropriate staff or Charge Nurse as necessary.
Order office supplies and floor stock and ensure the unit is well-stocked.
Keep work area clean and neat.
Follow established policies when performing all tasks.
Assume accountabilities for all actions in the workplace. Report errors promptly.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Documents patient information accurately and in appropriate place in a timely manner.
Arrange patient transfers accordingly in a timely manner.
Prepare orientation packets for new hires and residents.
Welcomes new patient/patient's family. Immediately alerts nurse if patient/patient's family seems or is unhappy and you have not resolved the issue.
Experience and Education

• High School diploma or equivalent and no experience required. Specialty areas may have increased certification requirements as dictated by unit or standard of care. Health Unit Coordinator Certification (CHUC) preferred. Hospital and/or acute care experience preferred.

Shifts:
Night Shift -6:00pm-6:00AM . 2 x 12 Shifts a week available.
Rotating Weekends as well.
