Legacy Emanuel Medical Center
in North Portland plays a vital role as a local and regional leader in serious clinical illness or injury. With around-the-clock expertise for critical health issues, including experts in trauma, heart care, burns, significant wounds, stroke, brain surgery and more, Legacy Emanuel is central to the health of our community and critical to the care of the Northwest.

Responsibilities:
Assists with admission, transfer and discharge records of patients. Assists with the admission process by printing labels armbands and, depending on assignment, completing patient belongings checklist.

Greets and assists patients, visitors and staff. Resolves patient and visitor questions and directs to the appropriate resource.

Maintains patient confidentiality of all patient and organizational records and information.

Communicates and interacts to exchange information needed to support patient care goals and outcomes, including patients, families and visitors.

Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain equipment used in the clerical support of patient care.

Notifies appropriate health care team members of patient needs.

Manages specimen labels. Delivers lab specimens in a timely manner. Depending on assignment, downloads health data from Glucometer into EPIC system.

Promptly reports information clearly and accurately to the appropriate individual(s).
Advises appropriate nursing and medical staff of patient's admission.
Depending on assignment, Push/Pull patient information in EPIC to the appropriate department/personnel.

Assists with scheduling procedures and appointments for patients and arranges transportation as appropriate.

Utilizes Legacy systems to prepare reports and summaries as directed by manager. May serve as unit L-time timekeeper.

Answers the telephone and intercom system promptly relaying messages to the appropriate personnel in an efficient and well-prioritized manner, often multi-tasking other clerical duties at the same time.

Depending on assignment, properly reconciles charges and/or credits supplies, equipment and pharmacy/IV items.

Depending on assignment, secures appropriate equipment for patient care in a timely manner.

Depending on assignment, orders and maintains supplies for the unit using Lawson or other Legacy approved vendors.

Completes/updates the call schedule and other appropriate unit records.

Distributes mail to staff and appropriate departments.

Scans documents into EPIC system.

Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
Six months Unit Secretary experience required or equivalent office/clerical experience in a medical setting. Solid understanding of medical terminology strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform detail work accurately. Solid communication skills required. Ability to effectively communicate with physicians and with other health care professionals. Excellent teamwork skills required. Must be able to proficiently operate applicable computer system(s).
