Ultrasound Tech Per Diem

Overview:

Performs technical and clerical duties of an ultrasound technologist in Imaging Services.

• This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center and AHMC. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of AHMC. The employee shall support Anaheim Regional Medical Center’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan. The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of Information, Environment of Care and AHMC initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Appropriately handles and disposes of sharps (i.e., needles, etc.) as required.
• Understands and practices standard precautions for self and others in patient care activities.
• Consistently applies infection control policies/practices.
• Ensures sterility of supplies and equipment.
• Understands and practices appropriate disease-specific isolation.

• Meets population/age specific competencies per unit specific addendum.

• Attends mandatory inservices/educational/training activities.
• Attends department specific education/training, inservices, and staff meetings.
• Verifies, by signature/initials, attendance at staff meetings or reading of staff meeting minutes.
• Submits all required paperwork on time.

• Department specific performance improvement project.
• Demonstrates understanding of performance improvement principles in job performance.
• Knows and understands PDSA model for unit’s Performance Improvement Program.
• Actively assists in unit performance improvement monitoring.

• Ability to perform all ultrasound exams and protocols including interventional exams.
• Maintain quality ultrasound images, as determined by radiologists.
• Knows all ultrasound protocols.
• Ability to assist radiologist during interventional ultrasound procedures, including breast core biopsy.
• Responsible for the appropriate knowledge of hanging protocols in the radiologist reading room.
• Ability to take call and send images by PACS proficiently with radiologists’ approval.
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.

• Protects patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Ability to work effectively with radiologists.
• Maintains open and collaborative working relationships with staff and physicians in order to maintain a pleasant work environment and a professional image of Imaging Services.
• Ability to effectively direct work flow of imaging assistant.
• Possesses excellent customer service skills.

• Ability to properly and efficiently manage patient flow and exams independently.
• Demonstrates good customer service skills.
• Knowledge of ultrasound patient schedule and how to add on a patient to the schedule.
• Ability to coordinate inpatients, outpatients and emergency patient workload.

• Reads all emails, assimilates information.
• Completes all exams in CPSI in a timely manner.
• Uses computer systems effectively and accurately including PACS.
• Has a working knowledge of how to send images by PACS.

• Maintains and cares for all ultrasound probes to keep them in good, clean working order.
• Patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times.
• All ultrasound technologists are crossed trained to perform all ultrasounds.
• Responsible for maintaining all regulatory requirements within the department.
• Assure that no medications are stored in ultrasound exam rooms.
• Maintain a neat, clean work area free of food and other non-compliant items.

Qualifications:

Minimum one year of ultrasound experience in acute care setting preferred

ARDMS or RVT required (New hires must obtain within one year from date of hire)
