Job Description

Accountable to the Lead Ultrasonographer, Assistant Manager and Manager of Radiology. Performs various pediatric Ultrasound exams, communicates diagnostic information to Radiologist. Maintains equipment, records and supplies.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ability to assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and exam/procedure. Demonstrates age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduces self and role. Explains procedure thoroughly to patient and or parent before performing the procedure. Performs ultrasound exams/procedures. Allows time for and encourages questions. Provides support and effective communications to the Radiologist and other members of the department and healthcare team. Works independently and efficiently. Consults with physicians, RNs and other sonographers to provide quality ultrasound services.

Adheres to a culture of safety. Washes hands, cleans and disinfects equipment as directed.

Performs ultrasound exams per protocol. Notifies appropriate ordering provider of recommended changes to ordered exam. Provides support to other modalities within the department as required.

Performs ultrasound exams for all areas supported by the department of Radiology including the ED, OR, onsite and off-site ultrasound locations. Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality. Images will include appropriate patient demographics, positioning, technical settings and annotations. Maintains technical competency and knowledge of new ultrasound applications.

Teaches and mentors new sonographers and students. Evaluates clinical and technical proficiency.

Ability to successfully utilize information technology systems associated with role. Assures that images and documentation are complete and accurate in the patient medical record. Adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.

May be called upon to cover nights, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Rotates shifts and on-call responsibilities.

Practices within the scope of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:
Successful completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. With successful certification, attains required ongoing CME's.
