Job Description

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022 to form one agency, The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking a Typist Advanced (TA) to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) in Glenwood, which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities.

This is a full-time opportunity with a schedule of Monday – Friday; 8:00 – 4:30 PM. Employees are eligible for a $1,500 retention payment for a commitment of 7 pay periods (14 weeks) and are eligible for renewal at the end of each 7 pay periods until the facility closes. This position will assist the Area 1 Treatment Team and Medical Records Administrator in maintaining a comprehensive medical record keeping system. The TA will maintain a correct and accurate client records system by filing information into Central Record. The TA will assist in clerical work that includes: locating information for Team Members, updating and providing copies of ISP’s as needed, scheduling post-institutional Plan of Care, proof reading materials, providing back-up for office staff and typing dictations of psychiatric consultations and investigatory interviews.

Located in southwest Iowa, GRC provides residential services for individuals who have struggled to be successful in the community, provides in home support for those who transition to the community and assists community-based providers by providing assessments, training, and other technical support. The goal of all GRC services is to help individuals be successful in their communities.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.
  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.

Additional Qualification Requirements

The test can be accepted if it is witnessed by another person and it has met the requirements/guidelines on the document submitted.


These guidelines must be met and need to be on the typing document you submit:

  • Number of errors
  • And it must be signed off by a witness or another person not just from the typing website's electronic signature.
  • You may attach the document to the online application.
  • Gross number of words typed in a five minute timed test
  • Net words per minute (one point deduction for each error)
  • Your name and date must be on the document submitted to this office.
