Job Description
Summary
As part of the fast-paced and progressive Turbine Module Engineering Team, the Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of Turbine Hot Gas Path hardware for New Units & Upgrades. Additionally, the Mechanical Design Engineer's responsibilities may include working with the Cross Functional Engineering teams and Global Supply Chain teams; supporting and qualifying hardware for new factory introductions; supporting and performing RCA & CAPA activities with partners in Product Service; performing and supporting ideation and execution activities associated with Multi-Year Agreements (MYA) with the MYA Systems Team; reducing cost and adding value to our products through Product Cost Out (PCO) and Pivot to Value (PTV) activities with the Repair Center of Excellence, the Global Supply Chain, Value Engineering, and Product Management.


The Turbine Module Mechanical Design Engineer also ensures that hardware will meet Product and Design Practice CTQs, by working closely with the Controlled Title Holders, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing, and Sourcing Teams on component and sub-system optimizations, focusing on: Design for Cost (Product & Total Lifecycle), Design for Variation, and Design for Manufacturability, using Lean methods. These responsibilities provide opportunities for both analytical and hands-on work.


Essential Responsibilities


  • Communicate technical issues within Turbine Module team and as well as with interfacing organizations such as Clearances, Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Suppliers, Materials Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Customer Service Engineering.
  • Participate and present in formal and informal technical reviews for all design tasks and output with Controlled Title Holders, following the documented NPI and RCA Processes.
  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the team to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
  • Execute the design or evaluation of assigned hardware using sound engineering practices and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.


Qualifications/Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering / Science from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of professional experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering / Science field)
