Position Overview

In this role, you’ll drive company commercial vehicles including side, super or belly dump trucks (with and without pups), tankers, water trucks, and transfer trucks to deliver asphalt and aggregates to job sites and customers. Wage:
$30.12 – 51.63/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime

Note: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement. Starting wage will be determined by hours worked and union status under the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure safe operational order and report maintenance or repair issues.
  • Cross train on various trucks and equipment as needed.
  • Before loading, ensures tailgate is latched and sideboards, trailer tongues and back of truck are free of all materials.
  • Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle. Investigate abnormalities. Complete written report of problems or necessary repairs and forward to maintenance personnel. Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to shop personnel. Perform operator maintenance and minor field repairs (i.e. mud flaps and mirror adjustments).
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
  • Maintain operator logs, time cards, mileage sheets, vehicle repair sheets, and records in accordance with company policy and departmental transportation regulations.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Maintain vehicle in a clean an orderly condition, inside and out. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations. Assist in keeping driver’s room clean.
  • Operate trucks to deliver materials to construction and customer sites in a safe and efficient manner. Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions. Be familiar with tag, tongue reach, tailgate position and location of levers and switches.
  • Check delivery tickets for special instructions and complete prior to arriving on the job. When loading, ensure proper materials are loaded in a safe manner. Obtain proper signatures as required. Deliver construction materials to jobsites at instructed. Ensure proper entry of on-the-job information on customer delivery invoices.
  • Move material as necessary in the performance of the job or as directed.
  • Pull levers to tilt body and dump contents. Shovel material as required. Set spreader chains when applicable.
  • Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment-controlled substance testing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL and medical card.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination and controlled substance testing
  • Must be a current member of or able to join Teamsters Local #174.


Preferred Qualifications

  • General driving experience in a commercial or construction setting highly preferred.
  • Experience operating dump truck, low-boy, tack truck, or tilt-bed a plus but not required.

  • Demonstrates ability to work and communicate well with Supervisors, Truck Drivers, Heavy Equipment Operators and other employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
