Position Overview:

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is one of 17 Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories. Operated by Stanford University on behalf of the DOE, SLAC develops and operates some of the world’s premier science facilities, including the first hard X-ray free-electron laser. Researchers from SLAC and other premier institutions around the world use our facilities to investigate some of the most exciting and important problems facing our society in areas such as clean energy, environmental science, biomedicine, and advanced materials. The SLAC Controller’s Office is responsible for providing excellent service and timely payments to employees and vendors, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial information, and delivering accounting and financial services to the Laboratory, Stanford University, and the DOE.

The Controller’s Office is seeking a Travel Advisor to join the Travel Team. This position will primarily be responsible for providing advice as it relates to DOE travel compliance and help create and update training materials. Additionally, this position will manage, review, and coordinate foreign travel requests and activities adhering to the DOE Official Foreign Travel Order and SLAC Travel Policy. This position will provide feedback, advice, and guidance to the Travel Manager, Controller, and senior Business Services Division management.

Note: This is a non-benefits eligible casual-nonexempt position (work less than 50% full-time equivalent), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Help manage help desk inquiries as a travel matter expert.
  • Create standardized written responses for the Travel knowledge base related to identified issues and questions.
  • Other duties may also be assigned by the Controller and Travel Manager.
  • Maintain expert level familiarity with the Foreign Travel Management System (FTMS).
  • Develop and administer travel training materials.
  • Act as a liaison with DOE Program Offices, U.S. State Department, and other DOE laboratories on foreign travel related matters.
  • Provide advice and specific recommendations on the SLAC Travel Policy.

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum ten years of relevant experience with DOE travel.

  • Experience leading and creating training materials for travel.

The expected pay range for this position is $26.88 – $88.92 per hour. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
